As a leading producer in the Turkish food industry in tomato paste, tomato products, sauces, ready meals, and canned foods, Tat Gıda reduced its water consumption by 20% and increased its water recovery rate to 30% through projects implemented in line with its sustainability and resource efficiency goals in water management.
Commenting on the company’s water management and water efficiency initiatives on the occasion of March 22 World Water Day, Chairman of the Board of Directors Veysel Memiş stated that the 58-year-old company, which creates value for the Turkish economy, continues to implement inspiring projects in sustainability.
“Efficient and economical use of water resources is one of our core priorities”
Veysel Memiş stated that water and wastewater management at Tat Gıda is carried out systematically within the framework of a written Water and Wastewater Management Policy, emphasizing that the efficient and economical use of water resources is one of the company’s key objectives.
He noted that continuously monitoring water consumption in production processes, treating wastewater in compliance with environmental regulations, and discharging it in a controlled manner are among the core principles of this policy.
Memiş added that water supply and usage processes at the company’s production facilities are regularly measured, and wastewater treatment plants are operated without interruption. He also stated that discharge quality parameters are continuously monitored, and processes are tracked and reported in real time through the Continuous Wastewater Monitoring System (SAİS). This ensures full compliance with environmental regulations while maintaining a transparent and controllable water management structure.
He also highlighted ongoing investments to improve water efficiency, including increasing the capacity of biological treatment plants, introducing advanced filtration systems, and expanding practices that promote water reuse in production processes.
“We place efficient use and conservation of water at the center of our sustainable production approach”
Veysel Memiş said:
“Water is a strategically important resource in food production. Therefore, as Tat Gıda, we place the efficient use and conservation of water at the center of our sustainable production approach. We regularly measure our water supply and usage processes and analyze them through data-driven monitoring systems. Thanks to our efficiency projects, we have succeeded in reducing water consumption by 20%. At the same time, through our recovery practices, we have increased our water recovery rate to 30%.”
He also stated that the company supports its sustainability approach with its corporate governance structure, noting that environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance is regularly monitored through the Sustainability Committee.
Memiş added:
“Energy and water efficiency, emissions management, sustainable agricultural practices, and employee development are key components of our sustainability strategy. Through our contract farming model, drip irrigation practices, and digital agriculture technologies, we are transforming our agricultural supply chain into a more efficient and traceable structure. In our production processes, we aim to reduce our environmental impact through practices that strengthen water, energy, and emissions management. Our water management initiatives, carried out in line with Tat Gıda’s sustainability vision, contribute both to improving operational efficiency and to the preservation of natural resources. This approach is also important for strengthening sustainable production models on a global scale, where water stress is increasingly rising.”
